-My Top 5 Favorite Male Anime Characters-

Just like with my top 5 female anime characters list, this is a list of characters from anime that left a lasting impression on me. Amongst all of the animes I’ve seen, there are the chosen few that really hit a high mark in my books of being incredibly awesome and well-rounded characters. Here’s my top 5 favorite male anime characters.

5. Hei (Darker Than Black)

HeiA mysterious anti-hero under the alias of ‘Li Shenshun’ by day, the contractor known as the ‘Black Reaper’ is a master assassin who uses powerful electric attacks to kill his enemies. Hei from Darker Than Black is a man who picks his worlds as carefully as he takes out his targets. Don’t let the mask gimmick fool you, because before long it tends to come off in a fight. Hei may be a cold-blooded killer when tasked to, but he’s a man with a surprising amount of heart and a past he can never let go of. And sometimes, Hei is just plain awesome.

4. Vash The Stampede (Trigun)

VashA gunman so powerful that he can take out entire rooms of bandits without even having to try; Vash the Stampede from the Western-style anime in space is a character that’s both utterly hilarious and thoroughly engaging. Though he seems to blindly preach ‘love and peace’, Vash’s dark past and complicated origins fuel much of his decisions and allow him to hone his gun skills for good. He sometimes might cause more trouble than solve it, leaving entire cities left in near destruction (hence the name ‘the Stampede’), but he means well and follows through in every decision he takes. Alongside the gun-toting priest Wolfwood, Vash is a force to be reckoned with.

3. Lelouch (Code Geass)

LelouchThe cynical Britannian student Lelouch Lamperouge may seem like all talk and no-show on the surface, but in secret he’s Lelouch vi Britannia, a prince of an empire, and to the public he’s Zero: a clever revolutionary hell-bent on freeing Japan of the Britannian empire’s control. Lelouch is what you get when you mix the brains of Death Note’s Light Yagami with the mech piloting skills of Gundam Seed’s Kira Yamoto; a fighter on both the intellectual level and the battlefield. Seeing Lelouch’s schemes unfold throughout the course of Code Geass is exciting and tense, and as he dirties his hands further in the name of protecting his younger sister, we see the birth of one of the most complex and heroic characters in anime.

2. Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)

ichigo-kurosaki-bleachA teenager pulled into the dangerous role of being a ‘Soul Reaper’, Ichigo Kurosaki is a brave and courageous individual who puts his friends above all else. The lengths to which he goes to gain power in order to protect the ones he cares about is admirable, and the results he gains are a sight to behold. However, power comes at a cost, and he constantly struggles against a dark force threatening to take control of him at any moment. Regardless, Ichigo continues to fight for what he believes in and he’s easily one of the strongest anime characters you’ll ever see.

1. Kenshin Himura (Rurouni Kenshin)

KenshinA man once known as ‘Battosai’ the manslayer, Kenshin Himura is a vagrant samurai attempting to live out a peaceful life. He once was a man who cut down people with ease and got into several violent encounters, but once his duties were over he swore to never kill again, accentuating this ideal by wielding a sword with a reversed edge. The events of Rurouni Kenshin take Kenshin through many trials and circumstances where his resolve is tested against new and old enemies. No matter what happens, Kenshin sticks to his beliefs and fights not for the sake of bloodshed but for the sake of maintaining peace. But when it comes down to it, Kenshin’s ‘Hiten Mitsurugi’ sword style is incredibly powerful and he fights with insight and precision.

So that’s my list everybody. Do you like any of the characters mentioned in this list? And what are your top 5 favorite anime characters? Let me know in the comments down below, on my Tumblr, Faceook or Twitter.
